Old Pictures

Sometimes you just get lucky and lyrics pour out, like a story that wants to be told. The melody of this one is heavily inspired  by traditional, old time American music. And, I did dream about painting old, black and white photos.

Lyrics & Music: N.J. Sardjoe

I heard your voice calling
In a dream long ago
I was painting old black and white pictures
Bringing colour to memories
Only spirit could know
I got lost in the illusion of life

I burned all my pictures
Led households astray
Made love to my lovers
Kissed nightmares away
I wandered the desert
Forty years, forty nights
Finding my way back to the voice
That I left behind

I couldn’t stop dreaming
Was homeward bound
My compass still worked though I felt I was blind
Gave up on resistance
Followed the sound
Of the voice that was calling
In the corners of my mind

Now I’ve learned all my lessons
Of heartache and pain
Been forcing connection
I won’t do it again
Love is free like the child
That’s running inside
Come sing with me darling
Let our voices abide

I burned all my pictures
Led households astray
Made love to my lovers
Kissed nightmares away
I wandered the desert
Forty years, forty nights
Finding my way back to the voice
That I left behind
